Think Outside the Car

goNewHavengo is a sustainable transportation coalition that encourages healthier, cleaner, and cheaper travel in the Greater New Haven Area. Every September, we host the CarFree Challenge giving individuals and businesses access to our wide range of transportation resources. During the rest of the year, we host events and work with our partners to decrease congestion and traffic in our city. You can also use this site to find out how best to commute in a sustainable way.

Start off by checking out these tools to help you get around New Haven without a car!

Thank you to the Greater New Haven Green Fund and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven for the support that makes goNHgo possible.

Transportation demand management focuses on helping people use existing infrastructure for transit, ridesharing, walking, biking, and telework. It is cost-effective in guiding the design of our transportation and physical infrastructure so that alternatives to driving are naturally encouraged and our systems are better balanced.

Mass transit is a system of large-scale public transportation in a given metropolitan area, typically buses, subways, and elevated trains - otherwise known as public transportation.

Active transportation is a means of getting around that is powered by human energy, primarily walking and bicycling. It is often called non-motorized transportation.

Alternative transportation refers to commuting in any way other than driving alone. Examples include biking, walking, carpooling, and taking public transportation. It is often referred to as sustainable transportation.
